The Client
Founded in the 1870’s, Lincoln County hospital serves Lincoln and the surrounding area. It provides all major specialties and a 24-hour accident and emergency service. The most recent major developments include three new wards built to the highest possible specification, all completed during 2010.
The Challenge
The medical records for the hospital were being stored on static racking in limited space over two different rooms. As the number of files kept increasing, the hospital ran out of space causing health and safety issues. There was limited budget available to install any new storage solution, and so the challenge was to come up with an innovative solution to solve these problems.
The Solution
After carrying out a site visit, Metalrax Storage proposed a mobile storage solution reusing existing and supplying some new racking. This gave the hospital the opportunity to save money whilst not needing to scrap the existing racking.
As the files needed to be accessed at anytime of the night or day, Metalrax Storage worked closely with the medical records and estates team to minimise any disruption to the staff working within the department whilst the project took place. The work was also phased as there was limited space in the department.
The final result was a high density mobile shelving solution that enabled the department to address the health and safety issues arising from the health and safety inspection. Despite the space restrictions, the mounting of the existing shelving onto mobile bases also meant the department now have nearly 100% additional storage capacity.
